The secrets of solventless:

All of your burning questions answered.

What makes rosin oil special?

Rosin has a high terpene and cannabinoid concentration. Terpenes are what form cannabis’s distinctive smell and contribute to the flavor, whereas cannabinoids are what contribute to the high sensation.

What's the difference between solventless and solvent-based products?

Solvent-based manufacturing methods chemically dissolve & separate the oils from the plant using chemicals like ethanol, butane, propane, and CO2.

Solventless manufacturing methods mechanically separates the oils from the plant using only heat and pressure. No chemicals are introduced to the process at any time.

What are solvents?

Solvent (from the Latin solvō, "loosen, untie, solve") is a substance that dissolves a solute, resulting in a solution.

In cannabis extraction, solvents like ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, butane, propane, and CO2 are used to dissolve chemical bonds in cannabis plants, allowing critical compounds such as cannabinoids and terpenes to be extracted and captured in the solvent for further refinement.

Is there a difference between solventless and rosin products?

Solventless products ARE rosin products 🙂 These are synonyms.

Aren't all rosin products 100% solventless? What do you mean when you say "we never cut our products"?

Many products labeled or marketed as "rosin vapes" or "rosin gummies" add distillate to increase THC potency, stretch the rosin product, or simply to cut costs. We were as surprised as you to discover that there can be as much as 40% distillate in these products. Distillate is not a solventless extract and is missing many of the beneficial components present in rosin.

SOMA Solventless products are Always 100% Solventless™ rosin, no shortcuts or funny business!

What is a solventless vape cartridge?

Our solventless rosin vape cartridges are created using SOMA’s proprietary solventless extraction process.  The rosin in our vape cartridges are TrulySolventless™, made with zero foreign solvents or chemicals at any point in the process.

How do you typically make rosin?

To make rosin, high-quality cannabis is frozen, agitated in ice water, and filtered through layered micron bags before the trichomes are freeze-dried, and pressed into rosin using a heated rosin press.

This process ensures the production of premium, solventless rosin with excellent terpene profiles.

Why would I want to pay extra for a solventless product vs. a distillate product?

Distillate is created using ethanol. When a solvent like ethanol chemically dissolves and separates the oils from the plant, it is also stripping away the plant's terpenes and other valuable components. The extract must then be purged to remove the solvents, and it may undergo several additional processing steps, making it highly processed. Many of those beneficial components don't make it to the end-product. That means you receive an incomplete cannabis product that doesn't keep all the beneficial compounds of the plant.

Rosin is the a natural expression of the cannabis plant and retains the most amount of the beneficial compounds originally present in the plant. You get what you pay for and in this case you get more compounds that lead to a more effective cannabis product that delivers a longer desired effect.

What are the benefits of full-spectrum rosin?

Full-spectrum cannabis extracts, such as rosin take advantage of the entourage effect—the synergistic effects of the combined compounds are often stronger and have greater medical benefits and enhanced therapeutic effects.

I've heard that rosin is only as good as the cannabis you extract it from. What kinds of cannabis do you use to make SOMA solventless rosin?

Our team carefully assesses our cultivators to ensure we source cannabis biomass from cannabis professionals that have clean facilities and practices, and who are gentle and careful in how they handle their products.

We choose cultivators who utilize proven practices to retain high terpene content in their cannabis, such as slow-curing, cold-room trimming, airtight bags for storage, and minimal handling.

We select cannabis that exhibits amazing, unique terpene profiles (terpenes give an extract its flavor, aroma, and many of the beneficial effects) so that we can deliver an incredible true-to-strain experience to our customers.
